PATRICK PALMER

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, announced today the appointment of Patrick Palmer as Faculty Chair of
the Glassell School of Art Studio School and Art History department. Palmer has taught at the Glassell
School for nearly 20 years, and his paintings can be found in a number of major collections, including the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Denver Art Museum, among
many others.  Palmer’s appointment as Faculty Chair follows the retirement of Suzanne Manns from the
position. Studio and art history courses are offered for adults of varying skill levels, and cover a variety of
media and art historical topics.

“Patrick Palmer has taught at the Glassell School of Art for nearly two decades,” said Glassell School of Art
director Joe Havel. “His appointment as faculty chair is a testament to his expertise, hard work and
dedication, and we look forward to the contributions and achievements he will bring to the school in his new
role here.”

Palmer received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1977 and his
Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University in 1979. He has led a long career as an educator: in
the 1980s, Palmer taught various visual arts courses at the City College of San Francisco and the University
of California at Berkley, among other places; and throughout the 1990s he taught at Art League Houston and
the University of St. Thomas, where he is adjunct professor. He has worked at the Glassell School of Art
since 1992, when he was appointed as the Department Head of Drawing, and has instructed Beginning,
Intermediate, and Advanced Painting; Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Figure Drawing; and Drawing
and Painting the Human Head. Palmer has been exhibiting work since the 1970s.
